The SHURFLO Revolution 4008 family is widely used as a 12-volt demand pump in RV fresh-water systems, with common RV versions rated around 3.0 gallons per minute and a 55-psi shutoff. This editorial guide is based on current manufacturer information and practical RV-use considerations; RV Gear Scout did not perform hands-on testing.

Quick verdict

A 4008 can be a straightforward replacement when the full model suffix, voltage, pressure, flow, ports, footprint, fuse, and wiring match the existing system. Do not order from the first four digits alone; SHURFLO model variations and OEM installations can differ.

Read the old pump label first

Photograph the label, wire colors, fuse rating, hose routing, strainer, and fittings before removal. Compare the complete part number with the current data sheet. Confirm 12V DC, port type, mounting orientation, available space, and whether adapters are required. A higher-pressure pump is not automatically an upgrade if fixtures and plumbing are rated lower.

A pump solves tank delivery, while our Camco EvoFlex hose review and Camco pressure-regulator guide address city-water hookups.

Electrical and mounting checks

Disconnect battery and shore power as the RV manufacturer directs, then verify the circuit is de-energized. Use the specified wire gauge, fuse, connectors, and grounding. Mount on a solid surface with the approved feet, but do not hard-plumb in a way that transmits vibration. Keep wiring and the pump dry and accessible.

Strainer, priming, and leak testing

Install and clean the recommended inlet strainer. Use potable-water-rated fittings and sealants only where the instructions permit. After reconnection, add water, open a faucet to purge air, energize the pump, and inspect every joint. Cycling when no faucet is open can indicate trapped air, a leak, a check-valve issue, or pressure loss.

Sanitation and winterization

Any work that opens the potable system requires clean tools and a sanitation plan consistent with the RV manual. Protect the pump from freezing by following the exact winterization procedure. A filter such as the one in our ClearSource Ultra review treats incoming water differently and does not replace tank and plumbing sanitation.

Bottom line

The Revolution 4008 is a sensible RV replacement when it matches the complete original specification. Document before removal, de-energize the circuit, protect the inlet with a strainer, test for leaks and unwanted cycling, and sanitize the opened system.
