Dicor 501LSW is a white, self-leveling lap sealant for horizontal RV roof details such as vent flanges, pipes, screw heads and roof-edge seams. It is widely useful, but only when the roof material, existing sealant and repair location are compatible.

Quick verdict: A practical maintenance item for compatible horizontal roof surfaces. Its ability to flow helps cover fasteners and flange edges, but that same property makes it the wrong choice for vertical seams. Inspect first, clean carefully and follow the RV and roof manufacturers’ guidance.

Where it belongs—and where it does not

Dicor describes this sealant as a secondary seal around roof edges, air vents, vent pipes and screw heads. It also lists adhesion to aluminum, wood, vinyl, galvanized metal, fiberglass, concrete and other surfaces. That broad list does not eliminate compatibility checks: roof coatings, plastics, previous repairs and manufacturer warranty rules can change the correct procedure.

Because 501LSW is self-leveling, reserve it for horizontal or nearly horizontal roof work. A vertical sidewall seam, window perimeter or door frame usually requires a non-sag product specified for that joint. It is also not a structural patch for torn membrane, rotten decking or a loose roof accessory.

Preparation is the real job

  1. Find the source: water can travel under membrane or trim before appearing inside.
  2. Confirm materials: identify the membrane and the existing sealant before mixing products.
  3. Remove only failed material: follow manufacturer guidance and avoid damaging the membrane.
  4. Clean and dry: Dicor directs users to remove dirt, loose paint, rust, oil and grease.
  5. Check weather: the listed cure times are estimates for 50–70°F conditions.
  6. Inspect after cure: look for voids, lifting or places where water can pool.

Understanding cure times

Dicor’s approximate schedule at 50–70°F is five minutes to skin, four hours to waterproof, 48 hours to 80 percent cure and 30 days to full cure. Those are not universal deadlines. Temperature, humidity, bead thickness, airflow and substrate can change the result. Protect the work from weather according to the label and never assume a surface skin means the full bead is cured.

Safety and storage

The manufacturer warns to keep the product away from heat, sparks and flame and to provide fresh air during application and drying. Eye and skin protection are prudent; consult the current label and safety data sheet for required precautions. Store and dispose of the tube according to those instructions, especially after the nozzle has been opened.

501LSW is a useful tube to keep in an RV maintenance plan, but preventive inspection is more important than owning sealant. Check roof penetrations and seams on the schedule specified by your RV and roof manufacturers. When you find a questionable area, verify compatibility instead of simply layering fresh sealant over dirt or unknown material.

For major membrane damage, recurring leaks or soft roof decking, professional diagnosis is worth more than another tube. Sealant can close a compatible joint; it cannot restore structural material already damaged by water.
